Letter from Playmakers' President

Playmakers Theater Another 60 Years

The theme of of our 2018-2019 Season and 64th year, is Looking Forward to the next 60 . For that to happen we need every one of our constituencies to support the effort. This includes the members, the patrons, the actors, the directors, the volunteers, the community and the board.

As President of Playmakers Board of Directors I have come to realize that we, all of us, need to tell Playmakers’ story of success. Playmakers is, after all, one of the longest running community theatres in the nation. That alone should be recognized as success. However, admittedly, success at this time in our community’s history, can not be based upon our age. Together we need to step up and do more.

I think that Playmakers has started this forward effort to do just that over the past season. We had a diverse, challenging offering of plays that addressed the issues of our time; made us laugh and cry, and we are about, at the writing of this letter, to take a magical trip in a flying car. Of course that refers to our now past performance of “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”.

In addition we started the Playmakers Readers Theatre. We are now taking the dramatic arts into the community with the goal of exporting awareness of all that live theatre is, while we put Playmakers name front and center in places it has never reached before. So far, with your support, it is proving to be very successful. It is the making of our future story.

Playmakers has existed for these many years because of the generosity of our past contributors. Our theatre rests on land donated many years ago by the Bertel family. Our building has suffered a fire and a flood but it still stands as our Main Stage. However we need your help. Our theatre is in need of not only repair but improvements that will enhance its performances and make the magic of the stage even more magical. Toward that end the Board will launch a capital campaign this season. We will focus on electrical improvements and a modern light and sound system.

To make all of this more exciting for you, our theatre going patrons, the Board will this season:

Offer six Main Stage Performances instead of five

Have two musicals instead of one

Have reserved seating with advance selling on line

Have electronic capabilities to usher in our ticket holders to avoid lines in the lobby

Roll out a new, modern and exciting web site

We are “Looking Forward” to the next 60 years. We hope to see you along the way. Get your season tickets now. Support our theatre.

Thank you,

Barbara Faherty
